Shopify Multipass
Multipass is a Shopify Plus-exclusive feature that lets you create seamless single sign-on (SSO) between your external systems and your Shopify store. Customers log in to your external platform (membership site, app, community portal) and are automatically authenticated on Shopify without needing to create a separate account or log in again.
Multipass works by generating encrypted tokens that contain customer information (email, name, shipping address). When a customer navigates from your external platform to your Shopify store, the token is passed via URL, Shopify decrypts it, and creates or matches the customer account automatically.
Common use cases include membership-based brands where customers access content and commerce through a single login, B2B setups where buyers authenticate through a company portal, and mobile apps that need seamless handoff to the Shopify checkout. It's one of those Shopify Plus features that only a subset of merchants need, but for those who do, it's a significant friction reducer.
