Frequently Asked Questions

If you have more questions, we're happy to answer them - just reach out.

How do I get started with Flux?

Reach out through our contact page or email us at hello@flux.agency. Tell us a bit about your brand, your current platform, and what you're looking to achieve. No formal brief needed - a few sentences is enough to start the conversation. From there, we'll set up a call to learn more about your business and figure out whether we're the right fit. If we are, we'll put together a scope and proposal with a fixed price. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you honestly and point you in the right direction. No pitch decks, no pressure.

How much does a custom Shopify Plus store cost?

Every project is scoped individually with a fixed price before work starts. Costs depend on complexity - a well-executed Shopify theme build starts from $40K, while custom Shopify Plus builds with checkout customisation and complex integrations sit higher. Headless builds using Hydrogen and Sanity start from $80K. We'll give you a clear number during scoping. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices

How long does it take to build a Shopify Plus store?

Most Shopify Plus projects run between 6 and 16 weeks from kick-off to launch. Timelines depend on complexity - theme builds with standard integrations are faster, while headless builds with custom content models and ERP integrations take longer. We give you a realistic timeline during scoping and run a structured process with clear milestones so there are no surprises

What's the difference between a Shopify theme build and headless commerce?

A Shopify theme build uses Shopify’s native Liquid framework. It’s fully integrated, reliable, and suits the majority of brands.Headless separates the frontend from Shopify’s backend. You still use Shopify for checkout, payments, and order management, but the experience is built independently (typically using React/Hydrogen) and can integrate with systems like Sanity.

Neither is “better” - they solve different problems.Theme builds are ideal for brands that want a robust, efficient platform that’s easy to manage and iterate on.Headless is for brands that need deeper control, more complex integrations, or a platform designed to evolve beyond standard Shopify constraints. Most brands don’t need headless. The ones that do, really do.We’ll guide you to the right approach based on what you’re trying to achieve — now and over time.

What size brands does Flux work with?

We work primarily with mid-market DTC and B2C brands doing between $5M and $100M+ in annual revenue. These are brands that have found product-market fit, are doing real volume, and need commerce infrastructure that keeps up. What matters more than revenue is whether you take your ecommerce platform seriously as a growth engine and want a team that does too.

Why should I choose Flux over other Shopify Plus agencies?

Three things set us apart. First, we only do ecommerce. Shopify and Shopify Plus is all we work on - 14+ years of deep platform knowledge, not surface-level familiarity from an agency that also builds WordPress sites. Second, we build commerce infrastructure, not just websites. We think about how your storefront connects to your ERP, 3PL, email platform, and analytics stack at scale. Third, we're honest about what you actually need. If a theme build will serve you better than a $100K headless project, we'll say so.

What platforms can you migrate to Shopify Plus from?

We've handled migrations from WooCommerce, Magento 1 and 2, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools, Shopify Basic (upgrading to Plus), custom-built platforms, and legacy systems. If it has a database, we can get your data out of it. Every migration is engineered specifically for your business - comprehensive 301 redirect maps, full metadata migration, product and customer data transfer, and clean integration architecture.

Do you offer ongoing support after launch?

Yes. Most of our clients move to a monthly retainer after launch. We handle ongoing development, performance monitoring, conversion optimisation, integration maintenance, and iterative improvements. A retainer means you have a dedicated team that already knows your codebase, your business, and your goals. No re-onboarding every time you want something new, so somone to tlak to.

Is all your work done in-house?

Yes. Design, engineering, strategy - all done by our core team in Australia. We don't outsource development offshore to developers you'll never meet. The people on your kick-off call are the same people building your store. Our CTO specialises in Shopify Plus architecture, and our design team works alongside engineering from day one.

Do I actually need Shopify Plus or is standard Shopify enough?

Not every brand needs Shopify Plus. If you're doing under $1M in annual revenue and don't need checkout customisation, wholesale channels, or multiple expansion stores, standard Shopify with the right engineering is plenty powerful. Plus makes sense when you need checkout extensibility, multiple storefronts, wholesale or B2B channels, advanced API rate limits, or Shopify Flow automations. We'll tell you honestly which tier fits.

What does the Flux design and development process look like?

Every project follows the same structure: discovery, design, development, QA, launch, and ongoing support. Discovery is where we learn your business, your customers, your tech stack, and your growth targets. Design and development happen in parallel where possible - our designers understand Shopify's capabilities, and our developers have opinions about UX. We scope a fixed-price build with clear deliverables and milestones before starting.

Will I lose my SEO rankings if I migrate to Shopify Plus?

Not if it's done properly. We build comprehensive 301 redirect maps covering every indexed URL on your current site. We migrate all metadata, canonical tags, structured data, and sitemap structures. We monitor Google Search Console through the entire transition and fix crawl issues in real time. Rankings should stabilise and improve within 4 to 6 weeks post-launch.

What third-party tools and integrations do you work with?

We build clean API integrations between your Shopify store and your operational stack. The most common tools we integrate include Cin7, Klaviyo, Gorgias, Taglays, ShipStation, Okendo, Xero, NetSuite, and various ERP's and 3PL providers. We build proper integrations using Shopify's APIs and middleware where needed, designed to sync reliably and handle edge cases at scale.

Is headless Shopify ready for AI-powered commerce?

Yes, and this is one of the strongest reasons to consider headless in 2026. Shopify's Storefront MCP, Catalog MCP, and Dev MCP all favour headless architectures. Sanity CMS stores content as structured data that AI agents can read and act on natively. If you're building a storefront today that needs to work with AI commerce tools over the next 2 to 3 years, headless gives you the foundation.

Can you redesign my existing Shopify store without a full rebuild?

Yes. We redesign existing Shopify stores regularly. We start with a UX audit to understand what's working, what isn't, and where the biggest opportunities are. Not every store needs a ground-up rebuild. Sometimes the smartest move is targeted improvements to your product pages, collection filtering, checkout flow, or mobile experience. We prioritise changes by impact on conversion and customer experience.
