Sanity CMS

Sanity is a headless content management system built on structured content. Unlike traditional CMSs that think in pages, Sanity lets you define content schemas - product highlights, promotional modules, FAQ blocks, hero sections - and your team assembles them into pages and experiences across channels.

It's our default CMS recommendation for headless Shopify builds. The real-time collaborative editor (Sanity Studio), live preview, and GROQ query language give both marketing teams and developers the tools they need without stepping on each other.

The structured content model is also inherently AI-ready. Every piece of content has a defined type, relationships, and metadata that AI agents can read, query, and act on. As Shopify's commerce MCPs mature, brands with structured content backends will be the ones positioned to use them effectively.

Think: structured content that your marketing team can edit and your developers can query.

Content is defined as typed schemas with relationships, which means developers can query exactly what each page needs via GROQ. The real-time collaborative editor (Sanity Studio) gives marketing teams independence without developer bottlenecks."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"What is the difference between Sanity and Contentful?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Both are headless CMSs, but Sanity uses a schema-first approach where you define your content model in code, giving developers full control. Contentful uses a GUI-based content modelling approach. Sanity's GROQ query language is more flexible than Contentful's REST/GraphQL APIs for complex content queries. Sanity also offers real-time collaboration out of the box."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Is Sanity CMS free?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Sanity offers a free tier that covers most development and small production use cases. Paid plans start when you need higher usage limits, more team members, or enterprise features like custom access controls and SSO. For most Shopify Plus builds, costs are modest relative to the overall project budget."}}]}]}
