## Best rowing machine for a UK home

My best overall pick is the [Concept2 RowErg Rowing Machine]().

It remains the benchmark for indoor rowing: excellent build quality, very accurate training data, smooth air resistance and a huge ecosystem of workouts/apps. The Independent also ranks it best overall for 2026, while noting that it is particularly strong for serious fitness and rowing training. www.the-independent.comwww.independent.co.uk

### [Concept2 RowErg Rowing Machine]() £1,069.20

### My UK shortlist

| Rower | Approx. UK price | Best for | |---|---:|---| | Concept2 RowErg | ~£1,070-£1,130 | 🏆 Best overall | | JTX Ignite AirX | ~£799 | Best alternative/value premium | | WaterRower Original | ~£1,250 | Quiet, attractive, natural feel | | JTX Freedom Air | ~£350-£500 | 💰 Best budget choice | | NordicTrack RW900 | ~£1,599 | Screen/classes & interactive workouts |

The JTX Freedom Air is particularly interesting if you don't want to spend £1,000+: it uses hybrid magnetic/air resistance and was rated the best value in The Independent's 2026 testing. www.the-independent.comwww.independent.co.uk

### [JTX Ignite AirX Rower]() £799.00

### [WaterRower Original Oak]() £1,249.00

### [NordicTrack RW900]() £1,599.00

### What I'd buy

If you have ~£1,000: Concept2 RowErg. If you have ~£500: JTX Freedom Air. If noise/appearance matters most: WaterRower. If you want a big screen and coached workouts: NordicTrack RW900.

One important point: if you're serious about improving rowing fitness, doing 2k tests, or potentially joining a rowing club, I'd spend the extra on the Concept2. Its PM5 monitor and resistance characteristics make it much more useful for structured rowing training. www.rowhq.app

If you tell me your budget (e.g. £300, £500, £1,000) and whether noise/space is an issue, I can narrow this to the 3 best machines for your particular home.

The best UK home-gym brands depend on your budget and training style, but these are strong choices:

- JTX Fitness - Best all-round value for treadmills, bikes, rowers and cross-trainers; a good UK-focused option for home cardio equipment. - MuscleSquad - Best for affordable strength equipment, including adjustable dumbbells, benches, racks and plates. - Bulldog Gear - Best for serious strength training, with robust dumbbells, barbells, racks and functional-training equipment. - York Fitness - Best budget-friendly traditional equipment, particularly dumbbells and basic cardio machines. - Technogym - Best premium option for polished design, connected training and high-end strength equipment, though prices are substantial. - ProForm - Best for connected treadmills and interactive cardio training; subscription costs should be included in the budget. - Hydrow - Best premium rowing experience, especially for guided, screen-based workouts. - Peloton - Best for highly integrated, instructor-led cycling and treadmill workouts, but requires a membership for the full experience.

## Best picks by budget

| Budget | Recommended brands | Best for | |---|---|---| | Under £300 | York Fitness, MuscleSquad, JTX | Dumbbells, benches, resistance equipment and entry-level cardio | | £300-£1,000 | JTX, MuscleSquad, Bulldog Gear, ProForm | Building a versatile home gym | | Over £1,000 | Technogym, Hydrow, Peloton, ProForm | Premium connected machines and polished user experience |

For most people, MuscleSquad plus JTX Fitness offers the best balance of price and versatility. Choose Bulldog Gear for a strength-focused garage gym, or Technogym, Hydrow or Peloton if premium connected training matters more than value.
