Activewear

AI Visibility Index

We asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews the ten questions Australian activewear shoppers actually ask. The same ten, every day, for fourteen days. 420 answers later, here is who the machines recommend. And who they have never heard of.

GHOSTS, ZOMBIES AND PHANTOMS
GHOSTS

Sixteen brands AI has never heard of.

Sixteen of the 44 brands in this index were never named. Not once, across 420 answers, ten questions, three platforms and fourteen days. Between them they hold 1.16 million Instagram followers, and several run stores in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. The pattern holds further up the table too. Doyoueven has 889,000 followers and appeared three times. CSB has a million and appeared 22. Lorna Jane has the same million and appeared 185 times. Social reach and AI visibility are not the same asset, and one does not buy the other.

ZOMBIES

Dead brands AI still recommends.

STAX went into receivership on 24 June 2026 and into creditors' voluntary liquidation on 10 July, owing $1,713,986 across roughly 12,900 unfulfilled and part-fulfilled orders. Its site now serves a receivers' notice telling customers to chase chargebacks. AI named it in 70 of 420 answers, on every single day of our window. Scored on the same basis as everyone else it would sit eighth. It is not alone. Organic Yoga Company, an Adelaide label whose domain no longer resolves, was recommended on six of the fourteen days. Active Apostle, a Sydney brand also off the air, came up five times. Models learn from yesterday's internet. When a brand dies, the recommendation keeps going.

PHANTOMS

Recommended brands that do not exist.

Perplexity told a shopper looking for gym leggings to consider Adrenaline, 2XU and BOM, describing all three as Australian activewear brands. 2XU is real and sits fourth in this index. There is no activewear brand called BOM, anywhere. Adrenaline is an Australian adventure-experience company that sells skydiving vouchers. Elsewhere the same platform recommended Evolution Active, which does not exist either, and Fittco, which is not a retailer but an affiliate comparison domain now serving online casino content. We checked all 25 unfamiliar names the battery threw up. Most were real brands the models had miscategorised. A handful were invented. If a machine can invent your competitor, it can just as easily forget you.

FOR CONTEXT

We tracked the internationals too, outside the ranked table. Lululemon scored 47.4, Gymshark 26.4, Nike 21.4, Under Armour 21.2, Adidas 15.2, Uniqlo 14.3. One Australian brand outscored every one of them.
